Having a positive attitude has really helped me through this difficult time we commonly share. I believe things are sometimes handed to us that we don’t understand or make any rhyme or reason for it. So I’ve taken this opportunity of slowing down to rejuvenate and empower myself with all the knowledge and tasks I’ve been previously complaining about not having enough time for in the past. Yes, taking alternative measures!

The first day of summer has come and gone and usually I’d have taken several trips by now. Looking forward to my days off and heading to the beach to do some serious fishing while enjoying the warm weather! This summer was very different than past summers. There’s so many changes in our everyday lives as we once knew it. Travel plans have been cancelled, vacations put on hold and social gatherings with friends have come to a halt. Overall, it has been a major adjustment dealing with this virus and trying to stay safe as well as protect the ones we love.

Since we can’t change what is happening, my only other option was to change my way of thinking. Making the most of each day, taking a positive approach in tackling the many goals I’ve outlined over the past months. This has truly been keeping me busy providing me with the down time needed in getting things done.

Pre-Covid 19, there was entertainment, family and friends to visit, the movies, walking the beach, dining out, live music, etc.. You get my drift! Some of these things can still be done just with a more conscious mindset. Then, there are some things that are no longer a part of my current situation but a memory to hopefully look forward to in the near future. Even though there have been several outdoor events to attend and restaurants serving meals on the deck while following the CDC guidelines to the best of their ability, you have to be comfortable with the decision you personally make. I am not personally there yet for several reasons, and I’m sure I’m not alone. Taking alternative measures, I’ve adjusted to this down time and have saved lots of money to allocate to other things on my to do list. Even though you budget for entertainment you’d be surprised how it really adds up month to month. haha (for real)

Lots of plants for beauty and tranquility

Some of the things that I find most enjoyable have been sitting on the deck enjoying a nice day and a warm breeze. Spending time in the garden replanting flowers to larger pots and adding new color to the landscape. Barbequing dinner on the grill while enjoying a scrumptious glass of wine with your loved one. Experimenting with the smoker and enjoying some delectable delights. These are all things I’ve occasionally enjoyed in the past but now have time to truly enjoy them!

Some goodies prepared over the past months: Shrimp & Chicken Fajitas, Baby Back Ribs, Carne Asada Tacos, Shrimp in Spicy Tangerine Honey Sauce and White bean Mexican Soup.

I mean , is there anyone else out there enjoying the simple things in life? I am spending quality time with me and it feels so good. I’ve been focusing on my health, taking really long walks and becoming very creative in the kitchen, which is nothing new but somewhat more enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong, I truly do miss my friends and spreading my wings like the social butterfly I am. I do talk to my friends on a regular basis and facetime occasionally enjoying a virtual happy hour shot or two – lol! I’m not one to face time but I do have to say it’s been nice to see friends up close while chit chatting. Gotta love today’s technology- Anything is possible.

So, what are some of the changes made in your life and how have you been coping with this temporary norm? There’s been so much negativity and division in the world that I would love to hear some positive stories and experiences about what everybody’s been doing with their time over the past several months. I just want to spread some feel good moments and share the love!

Looking forward to hearing some cheer-

Until next time

-Jaime
